Gifts of Securities - Utilizing securities that have appreciated in value to fund charitable gifts is one of the most effective means of benefiting RDS while obtaining considerable income tax advantages. If an individual sells a stock or bond that has increased in value, he will be subject to a tax on that capital gain. Because RDS is a noon-profit school, we are not subject to income taxation; we can sell either of those securities without being subject to the capital gains tax. Please see our instructions to gift securities. Also, there also may be tax advantageous to sell the depreciated stock, thereby establishing a capital loss. The cash proceeds are contributed to RDS. With gifts of securities, we recommend that you consult your financial advisor.
Matching Gifts Program - Please remember that many companies and organizations provide the employee benefit of a Matching Gifts Program. Inquire at your or your spouse’s human resources department; many companies provide this benefit may be doubled or even tripled through matching gifts programs, whereby many companies match contributions made by employees. Please use our Match Finder to find out if your organization provides matching gift support. http://www.matchinggifts.com/demo.cfm
Planned Giving provides an opportunity for donors to support RDS through deferred gifts. Those who create trusts, bequests, or other planned gifts are honored in the RDS Builders Society. The society honors donors who have made a planned gift to the School. Membership in the Society is extended to anyone who has made provisions for the School through either a trust, life insurance policy, bequest, or other planned gift.
Gifts-in-Kind, or non-cash gifts, are gratefully received in support of school needs. Many parents and friends of the School have access to goods and services that may be of use to the School. Donations of computers, office equipment, or other valuable items are very much appreciated. Contact the Director of Advancement for information.
Gifts in Honor may be made in honor or memory of an individual on the occasion of a birthday, anniversary, holiday, wedding, or significant life event. The individual so honored receives notification of the gift identifying the donor, but without specifying the amount of the gift.
Acknowledgement - All gifts to RDS are tax-deductible and are acknowledged and receipted through the Advancement Office.
Annual Report - All donors during the School's fiscal year (July 1 - June 30) are listed in the Giving Report, published In January.
Active Participation - If you are a current parent, we expect that you will take an active part in your child's education--perhaps by being involved in the classroom, attending events, volunteering to help out with projects when needed, sponsoring activities, or joining the organizations that work for the school's benefit -- like Redwood Day Parents’ Association.
Our parent-run organization sponsors fundraising events to provide a broad range of programs that benefit the community in immediate and meaningful ways. The RDSPA sponsors several annual fundraising events such as the Spring Auction, the Raffle and SCRIP.
The Sunshine Fund
This discretionary need-blind fund was established to assist children in our community for whom challenging circumstances arise that call for extra support. For students needing tutoring services, hearing exams, eyeglasses, or help with outdoor education expenses, the fund can provide financial help to make possible a child’s full participation in the RDS educational experience.
