Director of Advancement

From kindergarten through eighth grade, our students come to discover and understand their particular strengths and challenges as individual learners.
We are looking for a highly motivated Director of Advancement to oversee all advancement and campaign functions of the school, coordinate all major gifts and grants, oversee marketing, publications and communications, as well as organize cultivation events, and supervise the advancement staff.
Reports To: Head of School and Board of Trustees
Responsibilities Include:
Management
- Oversees Advancement Office and provides management and leadership with the department
- Oversees the fundraising activities among all constituencies of the School
- Works closely with the Board of Trustees’ Committee on Advancement as well as volunteer campaign leadership during campaigns
- Coordinates fundraising initiatives and calendar with RDSPA leadership
Individual Giving
- Assumes responsibility for major gifts program
- Oversees the Annual Fund
- Creates strategies for cultivating, soliciting, and securing major contributions from individuals
- Assumes responsibility for key leadership prospects
- Coordinates prospect research, cultivation strategies, stewardship activities, and outreach initiatives for the school’s various constituencies
- Coordinates the logistics of the solicitation activities by volunteers and staff.
- Coordinates the timing of solicitations
- Develops and oversees the stewardship program
- Develops and oversees the Planned Giving program
Campaign
- Oversees the successful execution of the next campaign
- Oversees the identification, recruitment and activities of all campaign volunteers
Administration
- Participates in the annual audit in coordination with the Business Office
- Assumes responsibility for the Advancement Budget
- Provides statistical data and completes annual surveys such as CAIS/NAIS, and ABADO as requested by the Head of School
- Fosters relationships with faculty and staff
- Represents Redwood Day School at appropriate functions during the year
- Attends Board Meetings and Board Committee meetings as appropriate
- Oversees the Sunshine Fund Committee and the approval and distribution of funding
- Consults on all fundraising activities within the school
- Member of administrative leadership team

Activity Leaders
Redwood Day School, an independent K-8 school in Oakland, is seeking energetic, playful, and responsible individuals to cultivate and develop the inquisitive minds of a diverse student body in our after-school program. Join our team in providing a fun, innovative, quality program, where children build their confidence through creative daily clubs, physical activities and free play. This is a part-time position Monday-Friday from 2:30-6:00pm. Additional hours are available during school holidays, in-service days and school vacations. Start date: August 14, 2008 for new hire orientation and training. School year begins August 27, 2008 and ends June 12, 2009. Positions open until filled.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Supervise, interact with and engage students
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance
- Facilitate activity clubs
- Daily preparation and dissemination of snack
- Set up/clean up of all program areas
- Attend regular staff meetings and professional development
- Communicate program needs to director
Successful candidates must demonstrate the following:
- An understanding and love of children
- High energy and creativity
- Excellent communication skills with children and parents
- Flexibility, patience and good sense of humor
