Service Learning

Service learning is a vital aspect of the curriculum at RDS. While most schools require their students to perform a certain number of community service hours for a given organization, at RDS service learning is included in every course. We view service learning as a method of teaching, learning and reflecting that combines academic classroom curriculum with meaningful service throughout the community. This model provides context and relevancy in a student’s daily coursework. Within each discipline, instructors will build a service learning project into their course. The project in most cases will be interdisciplinary in scope and design, in order to provide students multiple views to drafting a solutions-based model for addressing societal needs.
